3.65 GHz WiMAX Launches are starting to happen Print E-mail

As I have previously said, I am an early big fan of the potential of the revamped 3.65 GHz spectrum. It has the benefit of WiMAX quality technology as well as a much larger power allotment than unlicensed spectrum, albeit not quite so much as licensed bands offer.

Perhaps even more importantly, companies only have to file once for a national license and then register their base stations as they build out---resulting in an almost unlicensed spectrum level of simplicity.

Well, the deployments are starting to happen. A broadband wireless service provider in Atlanta, GA by the name of One Ring Networks has announced plans to provide WiMAX service in the Atlanta area using 3.65 GHz radios in 2008.

The company which is focused upon both fiber roll-outs as well as wireless already has broadband service in several areas in Georgia including the Carrollton and Braselton areas.

This is an early first shot over the bow, but I expect to hear of more soon. Just yesterday in fact, a potential client called me that mentioned they had filed for a national 3.65 GHz license as well.

Watch this space because I think big things will happen here.
